U. Utah Phillips

In case you missed the news, singer/storyteller U. Utah Phillips has died. That's not entirely surprising since, although he was only 73, he'd been in poor health for some time. In fact, I never saw him live because he was forced to cancel a show I was going to go to. But I do chuckle just thinking about his recording of "Moose Turd Pie."

Just heard this on the radio on my way home tonight. I'd seen him live several times. I loved the way he told the story of the IWW mailing Joe Hill's ashes in envelopes to all the states because he didn't want to be caught dead in Utah.

Long live U. Utah Phillips! Long live the IWW too - if any of them are still alive.
