Missed It By That Much

fauxkloreRobert got in early enough that we could catch a showing of Get Smart at the discounted matinee price.
My verdict is that it was as good as it had to be. In other words, it's nothing brilliant, but it was reasonably funny and definitely entertaining. All of the familiar catch phrases are there (e.g. "Would you believe?") It's been too many years since I've seen an episode of the TV show to really make comparisons fair.
Steve Carell didn't try to imitate Don Adams. I thought that was a wise move, though Robert disagreed. I found that I quickly forgot that it wasn't Don Adams playing the role anyway.
We both thought Alan Arkin was excellent as the chief. He's just so perfectly deadpan.
All in all, worth seeing but not going to win any awards. But it isn't like anybody expects this sort of stuff to break new cinematic ground either.
