October Prompts - Part 2
Nov. 24th, 2022 09:19 pm1. Do you own a tablet of any kind? I have a few. I still have an old Samsung Galaxy Tablet, that I need to transfer some photos off of. There’s an Amazon Fire I don’t think I’ve ever used. And I have an iPad I got as a retirement gift from my company.
2. What is a brand name you don’t really care for? I’m not sure whether this means a specific brand name product or the name itself. I’ll go with the latter and note that the most popular laundry detergent in Azerbaijan is named Barf.
3. When was the last time you were super busy? I am pretty much always super busy.
4. What was the last thing you cooked on the stove? Back in October, it was probably some pasta. But today I cooked wild rice on the stove, as part of Thanksgiving dinner.
5. Have you ever painted/stained a piece of furniture? I stained my dining room set. And some other stuff I can’t think of offhand. Oh, yeah, my rocking chair. And a stool, which I stained blue.
6. Do you prefer reading fiction or non-fiction? I like both. My taste in fiction runs to mysteries, while my taste in non-fiction runs to memoirs, especially travel-related ones.
7. Have you ever been in a talent show? I’m sure I must have, but I can’t think of anything specific.
8. What is the thing you like to do most when you’re alone? Read. Or work on craft projects, though I do the latter socially, too.
9. Can you whistle? I can get a little whistling sound out, but I certainly can’t whistle a song.
10. Do you eat too much candy? Alas, yes. Hence, I try to avoid buying candy.
11. Where is your computer located? I have a laptop. It moves between my desk and my dining room table, but spends more time on the latter.
12. Have you ever ridden a roller coaster? I think I rode some kiddy coaster as a child, probably one at the little amusement park next to a shopping center in the next town from were we lived. I have never had any desire to ride an adult roller coaster. They completely terrify me.
13. Have you ever had a work “spouse?” No. I’ve had close collaborators, but I don’t think there’s been the level of emotional intimacy I associate with that term.
14. What’s the last chore you did? Washing dishes.
15. Have you ever been to a jungle? Sure. I think the area around Iguacu Falls qualifies, for example. But, even more so, I’ve been to Papua New Guinea, much of which I think is considered jungle.
16. Do you like fire? I love fireplaces. And campfires are cozy and enjoyable. Other forms of fire, not so much.
17. Have you ever been a gymnast or a cheerleader? No, and never had ever desire to be either.
18. What was the last topic you did thorough research on? I suppose something related to Lithuanian Jewish genealogy.
19. What’s the last party you went to? A friend’s get-together in June.
20. Do you enjoy scary movies? Not especially. I like suspense, but not gore.
21. How often do you brush your teeth? At least twice a day - after breakfast and at bedtime.
22. Have you ever had a nose bleed? Hasn’t everyone? I certainly don’t get them often, however, and can’t really remember the last time I had one.
23. What is a dish you absolutely love but hate to prepare yourself? I’ve never mastered making knishes.
24. Have you ever built anything? Back in the 1980’s a built a couple of dollhouses. I later lost interest and gave them away.
25. What's the last fast food place you went to? I stopped at a Burger King when driving back from Ocean City this past weekend.
26. What's something you love about your job? Uh, being retired from it? I did love the variety of problems I got to address, so I didn’t really have an opportunity to be bored.
27. Do you know what you want to dress up as for Halloween? My standard Halloween costume is a t-shirt from the Source of All Evil in the Universe, with devil’s horns and tail. I’m a damn Yankee!
28. Do you enjoy visiting aquariums? I love them. My absolute favorite is the New England Aquarium, but I also like the National Aquarium in Baltimore and I remember the Georgia Aquarium being very good.
29. What's your favorite way to eat potatoes? Baked, with just a little butter.
