Vacation Summary
Dec. 5th, 2013 06:00 pm1) The famous things are famous for a reason. In Istanbul, that meant Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar (more for its architecture than the goods for sale).
2) The biggest spectacles were, however, the Goreme Open Air Museum (in Cappadocia - amazing frescoes in historic rock-cut churches) and Hattusa (archeological site, capital city of the Hittite empire)
3) Even though much of it was being renovated and was, hence, closed, what was open of the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara was well worth seeing. Ankara Citadel was, however, a disappointment.
4) Pegasus Airlines is cheap for a reason. But it did save a lot of time. My travel other than Istanbul to Kayseri was by bus (all daytime trips). Lone women are always seated next to other women.
5) KLM's business class hard product is average, but their soft product is quite good. Except for the head purser on the way from AMS to IAD, who was wearing way way too much perfume.
Time to unpack a little and collapse, as I intend to go to work tomorrow.
