Dirty Tricks

I'm not surprised by dirty tricks being attempted. I am, however, surprised at how dumb some people trying them can be.

There are reports that flyers were distributed in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (which has a significant African-American population) claiming that the Virginia General Assembly had passed an emergency measure making voting a 2-day process, with Republicans to vote on Tuesday and Democrats on Wednesday. Aside from the flyer having a spelling error ("electorial" vice the correct "electoral"), anybody who knows anything about Virginia would realize the absurdity of this.

See, Thomas Jefferson didn't believe in political parties. And, if Thomas Jefferson didn't believe in it, the Commonwealth of Virginia does not believe in it. That doesn't mean that there aren't political parties in Virginia, but it means that there are no registered members of political parties here. The state has no way to know what party you associate yourself with.

That, by no means, excuses the disgustingness of the tactic. It does, however, strongly suggest out of state scum at work.

People tried that back in 2004; I was surprised to read in the news that people were trying it again. Oy.
