"Life of the Party" is also a good song, though it probably needs a larger stage for the choreography to be effective. It's also an interesting one when put in context. (Grandpere stages birthday parties for himself whenever he wants to bring the family together, but it really is his birthday and he has a heart attack at the party.)
I can't think of any theatre companies in L.A. that really do older, small musicals much. The only one I remember seeing while I lived there which would fall into that category was "Do I Hear a Waltz?" in Pasadena. We're lucky to have Signature (which is using their smaller, 160 seat theatre for this one) and American Century Theatre here. You might want to look and see what 42nd Street Moon up in San Francisco is doing. I've caught productions there when I've been out that way, including "The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd" and they specialize in fairly obscure material.
