Yesterday was the Virginia Storytelling Alliance Saturday series. I enjoyed the day, more for the time hanging out with other storytellers than for the workshops and concert themselves. Not that there was anything wrong with those - but I've been rather workshopped out, so unless something is on an unusual topic, I am going to be lukewarm towards it. And the concert was somewhat marred by being in a tent, which was too cold, despite the layers of clothes I was wearing and the afghan I'd brought along. The stories were great, but my attention was divided between them and my mental whining about the temperature.

This afternoon involved going to see The Drowsy Chaperone at Reston Community Players. I really liked the music and many of the things that the Man in Chair says about musicals are things I have also thought. (Overtures! Yes, please, give us overtures!) I was skeptical about the concept, but I found the show very enjoyable. My only real complaint is that some of the performers had difficulty being heard over the music. I think part of the problem was the acoustics of the theatre itself. I'll have to listen to the cast recording to get some of the lyrics that got drowned out.

On an entirely unrelated note, I'm sorry to see Theo Epstein leaving the Red Sox, but I wish him well in Chicago.
