So that I don’t get too insanely behind on these, here are the first set of July blog prompts.

1. We're halfway through the year (give or take a few days). What are you looking forward to in the coming months? I suppose the usual things - travel, theatre going, seeking total world domination

2. What do you want to remember about today? What would you like to forget? July 2nd was not a particularly memorable day one way or the other.

3. If you could wish for one thing to happen tomorrow, what would that be? I normally buy a lottery ticket the first Sunday of the month (when I go grocery shopping), so I suppose I would wish for a winner when I scratch it off. (And, in fact, I won $25.)

4. What colours are you wearing? I am almost always wearing black.

5. What is a political issue that interests you? Separation of church and state. As a Jew, I am distressed by the direction the Supreme Court has been taking to allow Christian extremists to impose their beliefs on others.

6. Do you still carry cash on you/use cash on a regular basis? I always have some cash with me and do use it for smaller purchases.

7. Messy or neat? Despite aspirations towards being very organized, I end up being messy, largely because I have too much stuff and am lazy.

8. Do you still get crushes on celebrities? Sort of, but it isn’t like when I was a young teenager and put up posters of my crushes.

9. Have you ever read a book, or watched show or movie, that made you cheer more for the antagonist rather than the protagonist? While villains are often more interesting than the good guys, I pretty much only cheer for them when they’re antihero, e.g. Dexter Morgan in the Dexter series.

10. What is your favourite thing to do on a Sunday morning? Curl up with some coffee and the Washington Post.

11. What are some of your favourite ways to cool down or keep cool on hot summer days? Ice cream, umbrella drinks, and cowering next to the air conditioner.

12. What's the craziest thing you've done for love? Reading a pop=psych book because the object of my affections highly recommended it.

13. When was the last time you had an inspiring conversation? Who was it with? I’ll consider an inspiringg conversation one which gives me idea of things I’d like to do, so I will count a conversation with one of my genealogy groups a few nights ago about a presentation I should put together.

14. If you didn't have any responsibilities for the day, what would you do? Being retired, I often don’t have particular responsibilities on a given day. That leaves me free to sleep late, read, and try to ignore all the household things I am not getting done.

15. What was the last fruit you ate? A couple of medjool dates. I really need to go grocery shopping.

16. If sacrificing your own life would save the lives of a specific number of strangers, how many strangers would need to be saved for you to sacrifice your own life? What if the people were friends? How about family? Sorry, I am selfish. I am not sacrificing my life.

17. July 17 is "World Emoji Day". Do you use emojis? I use an occasional reaction (e.g. a like or heart), but, for the most part, I insist that if Jonathan Swift didn’t need emojis, neither do I.

18. What is your biggest indulgence? Good coffee, good chocolate, bubble bath

19. What’s something terrifying that we’ve all come to accept as a fact of life? The continued existence of the New York Yankees, aka the Source of All Evil in the Universe.

20. Are you good at keeping secrets? Is it ever okay to share a secret? I am, generally, good at keeping secrets. I would share one if someone I knew was planning to do something that would hurt or endanger other people. (This has never come up, but people I knew have been victims of situations I wish I knew about beforehand and could have stopped.)

21. If babies are considered innocent, when do people cease to be innocent? Somewhere between ages 12 and 18.

22. What would you genetically change about humans to make them a better species? It would be convenient for humans to be more capable of adapting to climate changes without using artificial means like air conditioning.

23. Have you ever worked retail? No, unless you count things like having to sell candy or magazine subscriptions or stationery for school things when I was a teenager. This is an area that definitely does not suit me at all.

24. A robot wrote this entire article. Another wrote and performed poetry. Should we be scared? No. There’s still human creativity behind the programs that allow robots to produce these things.

25. Omnivore, vegetarian, vegan or something else? Largely pescatarian.

26. Does anything hurt today? Not yet.

27. Who was the last person to make you angry? One of my friends who kept sending me depressing news articles.

28. When was the last time you properly cleaned out your refrigerator? A few weeks ago, before I left on my back-to-back trips.

29. Is there anything you regularly lie about? Not that I can think of.

30. Do you mostly do specific chores on specific days each week (e.g. groceries on Saturday, laundry on Wednesday, etc.)? Sort of. I normally do grocery shopping on Sunday mornings and go through the week’s mail on Fridays. I’d like to establish a more regular schedule, but I never seem to.

31. Of this month's questions, which was your favourite? #19.
