February Prompts - Part 2
Mar. 16th, 2022 10:15 pm1. Are you happy with your height? Would you change it if you could? I’d like to be about 2 inches taller. I was the tallest girl in my class until 6th grade, when another girl shot up. I ended up at the tall end of average height, but I would love to be at the lower end of actually being tall.
2. Do you bite on straws, lollipop sticks, etc? I bite on pens all the time.
3. Have you ever been in a lighthouse? Plenty of times. We went to the Montauk Lighthouse when I was a child and I’ve visited a few others over the years.
4. How do you take your tea or coffee? Black and strong. If coffee were meant to have cream and/or sugar, the beans would grow that way.
5. Do you enjoy shopping for groceries? Yes, especially in other countries, where it is fun to see what stores have and what the prices are like.
6. What is the most distinguishing landmark in your city (or the closest city to you)? Both Wolf Trap and Meadowlark Botanical Gardens are a few miles from my house. And, of course, there are any number of monuments in Washington, D.C.
7. What was the very first social media site you signed up for? Does USENET count? I started using it about 1985.
8. If you were to start a business, what kind would it be? A combination yarn store / used book shop. I’d also sell chocolate and have regular readings and storytelling events there.
9. At what time of the day do you like to take showers? Whenever. I most often shower first thing in the morning, but sometimes shower in the afternoon after taking a walk, especially if it is hot and humid out.
10. How well do you know your neighbors? Not well at all. I know a few people in my condo complex, but not many. I used to know my next door neighbor pretty well, but she moved away after having knee replacement surgery, because our place is difficult if you can’t manage stairs.
11. What level of brightness do you usually keep your phone at? About the middle of the range.
12. Do you prefer your nails long or short? Short. I had a piano teacher who used to clip my nails. Once in a while, I want long nails when I dress up, so I use press-ons.
13. Do you like to draw? Yes.
14. When was the last time you were up before the sun? I am often up before the sun, though I usually go back to sleep after a couple of hours.
15. What are your favorite smells? Coffee, baking bread, lemon,, mint, lily of the valley, old fashioned roses, the ocean
16. What is something that interested you when you were younger that you no longer care about? When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a biochemist. I didn’t like organic chemistry in college, so went in a different direction. While I do read magazines and news articles about science, I am not as interested in biochemistry as I am in other areas.
17. How often do you take naps? Almost daily.
18. What was the last fruit you ate? I eat fruit pretty much daily. Berries (blueberreis, blackberries, strawberries) are my favorite, followed by grapes,, pineapples, and oranges or tangerines.
19. What is the most difficult thing you have ever had to accept? That I can’t be good at everything I try to do.
20. Do you swear in front of your parents? My parents are both deceased. I don’t swear much, in general, and I particularly tried not to swear in front of them, but I probably lost my temper with my mother from time to time.
21. Have you ever had an emergency surgery? No
22. What is your least favorite beverage? Root beer.
23. What's the longest distance you've walked in one go? I did the Sierra Club One Day Hike of the C&O Canal Towpath a few years back, so 50 kilometers.
24. What sort of a competition do you think you could win? Is there some sort of Snark Olympics?
25. What is a concept you don't really understand? How people can be so cruel to one another.
26. Is there anything you do which would be considered unhealthy? I don’t exercise enough and don’t sleep enough.
27. Did you do anything productive today? I checked a few things off my to-do list. I also had crafts group, so made some progress on the cross-stitch I’ve been working on for months.
28. What about your personality makes you good at your job? I’m retired, so I suppose laziness makes me good at that. When I was working, I used to say that my biggest asset was the willingness to call people I didn’t know to get information. I am also very good at taking initiative when I think something is important.
