Arts and Crafts Day
Feb. 27th, 2011 08:17 pmI had an idea a few weeks back and it came to fruition yesterday.
As I said in the invitation I sent out, I have more arts and crafts supplies than I can use in three lifetimes. And I have lots of creative women friends. So I invited several of them over to play.
I put out paper, magazines to act as collage fodder, glue, paints, sequins and other odds and ends. I didn't put out yarn but I said that if anybody wanted any, they could just name a color and what animal, vegetable, or mineral they wanted it to come from and I could probably oblige.
I ended up with 8 guests (including the 8 year old daughter of one friend) who did things ranging from working on a long-standing crochet project to collaging gift tags. I did some more of the collaging on a book project I have been ignoring for several months and also made about 80% of a clothespin doll. (I plan to crochet a top for her to wear, but I need to find something to use for arms.) I served muffins in the morning and had soup cooking all afternoon, which served the dual purpose of feeding my guests and filling my freezer.
They tolerated my breaking away to buy baseball tickets. I was able to get a single Green Monster seat for a September 17th game against the Rays.
Overall, I'd call the event a success and I could probably be persuaded to do it again some time.
