Alash

I had a really interesting day today, including the potential for a new project at work. I had some tedious things to do also (e.g. reviewing a document) but that's only to be expected.

After work, I went to see Alash Ensemble perform at the Kennedy Center. Although I've listened to Tuvan throat singing for years (and have actually been to Tuva), I wasn't familiar with this group. But the Millennium Stage performances are free, so why not?

It was very enjoyable. I particularly liked Bady-Dorzhu Ondar's solo, as well as "Dynggyldai" and "Bashtak Joke." Their American manager, Sean Quirk, provided amusing explanations of the songs. I didn't care as much for some of the slower instrumental pieces, but that's a minor criticism.
