Normally, I would see at least 5 or 6 fringe shows, but I had a lot of time commitments this year. I couldn't just ignore the Capital Fringe Festival though, so last night I went to see "Captain Squishy's Yee-Haw Jamboree," chosen on the grounds that I liked the same group's "I Like Nuts" last year.

This was a very silly musical involving a country-western television show, a World War I German spy, and a crazed would-be star. Yes, I know there was no television during WWI, but the story is really set in the 1960's and the spy in question only thinks the war is still going on. The plot, such as it is, is intermixed with bits from the show, e.g. "The Dead Kitten Tea Party." The highlights are a couple of musical numbers, particularly a love song to bacon (with lines like "I'm achin' for bacon when I'm wakin'" and "bacon, you're gonna break my heart.") There's also an alcoholic monkey who proves to have unusual talents.

This isn't going to have Stephen Sondheim trembling, but it was entertaining enough.

I may go to another fringe show tonight, but the one I most want to see ("Headscarf and the Angry Bitch" - a solo show about being a Muslim woman) is sold out.

I did finally get around to taking pictures of the glass I made in my class a few weeks ago.

First, the caterpillar / paperweight thing-a-ma-jig:

and then the "cylinder" (i.e. drinking glass / tumbler). It didn't quite come out cylindrical, so I will just assert that gives it, um, character:
