fauxkloreDreary weather is definitely the right time to walk around D.C.. Usually, walking down Pennsylvania Avenue is irritating, due to slow moving herds of tourists. But there were relatively few today.
My instinct that tourist central was a good place to find D.C. t-shirts was a sound one. Any number of street vendors will sell you 3 for $10. (Usually I've gotten picture books as gifts for guides and hosts, but Earthwatch suggested t-shirts or towels for my host family for this trip.) The same shirts go for 2-3 times the price at actual stores.
