I did some errandy things in the morning, before heading off to darkest Maryland (well, Beltsville) for the Voices in the Glen swap, which had a winter theme. I told the story of dreidels in Chelm, though I don't think I did a particularly good job of it. I found it interesting that a couple of people asked if it was okay to tell Christmas stories. (Yes, of course it was.) And one story had no specific winter reference, but Bill just said to Zoe at the end, "it happened in winter, right?"

If I still wrote poetry, that might be a good line to use. It happened in winter. So many things don't.

Anyway, I drove home, had dinner, did a few more odds and ends around the house (i.e. started reading the Sunday Post), changed clothes and headed over to the Epicure Cafe for the Better Said Than Done holiday show. There was a good mix of stories and a very responsive audience. I told a new story, titled "They Tried to Kill Us, They Failed, Let's Eat" in which I extrapolate from that description of most Jewish holidays to a more general celebration of surviving the things life throws at us. I'm happy with how the story turned out and the audience seemed to enjoy it.
