Book Lists
The people in the Library Thing group on Live Journal have been doing book polls, listing the books they read last year and having people check off whether they've also read them (at any time, not necessarily next year). That's a bandwagon I'm not jumping on.
I do keep a list of what I read. In fact, I go beyond that and keep a journal where I write reviews / commentary on every book I read. I do that mostly because it forces me to think about what I read.
But I have no particular interest in whether anybody else reads the same stuff I do. If I recommend a book, it is usually a recommendation to a specific person whose tastes and interests I know something of. In many of those cases, I will actually buy them a copy of that book.
I just don't see the point of book popularity contests.
