February Prompts - Part 1
1. Do you think your country would change if everyone, regardless of age or any other current restriction, could vote? If yes, in what ways? That’s a terrible idea. We already have too much emphasis on personality of candidates, rather than on issues. Allowing immature people to vote would make that worse.
2. Is there a movie or TV show you can watch over and over again without tiring of it? Maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Or the earlier seasons of Northern Exposure.
3. If an actor who is really well known for one role turns up in another film or TV show playing a different character, do you have trouble not seeing them as their more famous character? No. I rarely remember who played a given role anyway.
4. Regardless of your age, what "old person" thing(s) do you do? Well, I am an old person. But I suppose something like trying to eat relatively healthy food.
5. Do you often get the hiccups? If yes, do you have a go-to cure for them? I can’t remember the last time I got hiccups.
6. What's the best Wi-Fi name you've seen? One of my neighbors uses FortKickAss.
7. What was the last funny video you watched? Randy Rainbow’s The Tango Vaccine.
8. Which current or at least recent news story is the most interesting to you? The trucker convoy, given potential local impacts.
9. Would you rather ask for help with a difficult task, or figure it out for yourself? It depends on the task and what makes it difficult. Some things, for example, could use an extra hand, so there is no point in struggling through trying to do them alone.
10. What do you think is the best sitcom (current or past)? M*A*S*H
11. What do you think is the most overrated movie? I found Birdman pretty much unwatchable.
12. Who would you most like and least like to be stuck in an elevator with? Being stuck in an elevator with the gentleman with whom I conducted the world’s longest running brief meaningless fling would be entertaining. Being stuck in an elevator with someone I worked with a number of years ago would be terrifying. Let’s just say that this guy’s nickname at work was “the axe murderer.”
13. What was the last song you listened to of your choosing? What was the last song you heard that was imposed on you (e.g. background music at a store, in someone else's car, etc.)? “Out Along the Estuary” by Lou and Peter Berryman. As for things imposed on me,there was some jerk playing rap music loudly on the metro without headphones not long ago. I got up and moved to another car.
14. Do you play mobile games on your phone? If yes, what is the most addictive game you've played? I play Bejeweled Blitz pretty much every day.
15. Do you text more or call more? Why? I prefer texting. It feels less intrusive.
16. Most important in a partner or best friend: intelligence or sense of humour? Hmm, can I say an intelligent sense of humor?
17. February 17 is "Random Acts of Kindness Day". What random act of kindness would you like someone to perform for you? Often the kindest thing would be leaving me alone.
18. What are you going to do this weekend? I have a story swap Saturday night and two meetings on Sunday.
19. Would you rather have all your meals prepared for you, but not have any say in the menu (outside of certain dietary restrictions e.g. allergies), or sleep eight hours every night, but not get to choose your bedtime? I like cooking, so I’d go for the sleep.
20. What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear/see it? People saying “tenant” when they mean “tenet.”
21. When was the last time you got to tell someone "I told you so!”? Probably during a game of Codenames.
22. If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator? David Attenborough.
23. Is there something that you're interested in that most people aren’t? Lots of things - folklore, polar exploration, bookbinding, string figures, anamorphosis.
24. What was cool when you were young, but really isn't cool now? tie-dye
25. What is the least inspiring/interesting meal you've eaten? Some particularly mediocre and amazingly bland allegedly Mexican food somewhere in Eastern Colorado, that appeared to be largely velveeta and had no spice.
26. What really needs to be modernized? The American health care system.
27. "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!" Do you believe hardship make a person stronger? If so, under what conditions and at what point is it too much hardship? If not, what makes a person stronger? Hardship can make a person stronger, but I think there are ways of getting stronger without suffering. Meeting achievable challenge via reasonable increments is the best approach.
28. What's invisible, but you wish people could actually see it?. It would be easier to avoid allergens if they were more easily visible.
