The lack of a wireless card was really the issue. I should be getting my new corporate laptop (which will have a wireless card) this week. But it's the government laptop that is actually useful for me to travel with and there are about 2 wireless cards for the whole organization, so getting one to take along is difficult.
I know it is reimbursable, but it still annoys me for the company to have to pay more than necessary. I fundamentally dislike wasting money, even when it is not my money. For example, the rare times that I drive in to work, I park at a meter a couple of blocks away because it's insane for them to pay $12 for 2 hours at the hotel lot across from my office.
